With over 15 years of business strategy and content creative experience at both small and large organizations, David Beebe has established himself as a successful intrapranuer by envisioning and establishing emerging and profitable business units focused on the development and production of digital programming in various leadership roles at Disney/ABC Television Group, DIRECTV, Showtime Networks, Venice Magazine, and the United States Coast Guard.
A natural storyteller, consensus builder, and collaborator, Beebe is driven by his passion for building businesses around video content and creating digital experiences that entertain, engage, influence, and prompt conversation with consumers. Beebe’s track record exemplifies his proven ability to successfully setup, launch, and lead new organizations; identify deficiencies and potential opportunities; and develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness and increasing revenues.
David Beebe most recently served as the Vice President, Disney/ABC Television Group Digital Studio, based in Burbank, CA. Reporting to Albert Cheng, Executive Vice President, Digital Media, Disney-ABC Television Group, Beebe was charged with the general management, creative development, physical production of digital programming, including derivative webisodes, original series, and live shows for the Disney-ABC Television Group’s diverse portfolio of broadcast and cable networks, including ABC Entertainment, ABC Daytime, ABC Family, and SOAPnet.
Prior to his promotion to Vice President, Beebe served as Director, Video Production, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group since 2007 where he managed and lead a team of over 40 people responsible for the production, post production and distribution of short form content on ABC.com, ABCFamily.com, SOAPnet.com, ABC Mobile, Oscar.com, Hulu.com, YouTube.com, and other digital platforms, and products.
It was in this role as Director of the group, that Mr. Beebe ideated the business model and organizational structure of the Disney/ABC Television Group Digital Studio. His vision of a group dedicated to building deep and long lasting relationships with advertisers to develop and produce branded entertainment including scripted webisodes that extend existing storylines and characters, unscripted and scripted original series that engage fans, live programming that drives interactivity, and custom creative including vignettes, pod-busters, and pre-rolls that unite brands and original storytelling.
Beebe has overseen production of scripted derivative webisodes for two seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, one season of Cougar Town and Scrubs, and three seasons of Ugly Betty. He’s overseen over 100 original digital series, including Life With Confidence for Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Stars Go Green, and the Primetime Emmy nominated “Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative”. Shot on film, “Mysteries” was one of the biggest undertakings of the department, marking the first true transmedia production, effecting live events (Comic-Con), on-air, online, DVD, and print ads. The videos were featured in the December 2009 issue of Entertainment Weekly.
Just this past Oscar season, Beebe was entrusted with the responsibility to execute John Lassater’s creative vision to create the most interactive Oscars ever. He led the digital video production team that produced the groundbreaking and Emmy Nominated 2011 Oscar Live Experience that included 32 live streaming cameras that allowed fans to direct their own experience on the Oscar Backstage Pass App and Oscar All Access on Oscar.com. Beebe has also led the creative development and physical production of the 2010 Oscar.com Live Red Carpet Show, as well as original series, including The Road To The Oscars, hosted by Chris Harrison of the Bachelor and Behind The Dress series, hosted by Jay Manuel.
In 2009 and 2010, Beebe oversaw production of the 2010 CMA Awards Live Red Carpet Show for ABC.com and the original series, Artist Countdown.
Prior to his promotion to Director, Beebe served as Manager, Video Production for ABC.com (2006-2007), where he was responsible for the day-to-day video production process and management of Video Producers, Video Editors, and Distribution Coordinators. Beebe built relationships with television show producers and talent to develop concepts, ideas and derivative short form video productions. Beebe developed and produced the very first online and mobile daily news and hosted live red carpet shows for ABC.com and ABC Mobile around ABC primetime shows and special events such as the Oscars, Emmy’s and Country Music Awards.
Beebe was first hired at Disney/ABC Television Group as a Video Producer in 2005 to establish the video production group. He planned and executed the vision of the group, identified and setup the structure, staffing, and equipment. Just three months into his first role, Beebe volunteered, and was tasked to serve as the Project Manager the Emmy Award Winning Full Episode Player on ABC.com, a successful network first in 63 days.
Prior to joining the Disney/ABC Television Group, Beebe worked at DIRECTV as Sr. Editor and Producer, where he was responsible for managing editorial marketing copy online for DIRECTV.com and producing promos and original shows for DIRECTV’s own promotional channel on air and online. Beebe also led the charge to launch the first video player on DIRECTV.com and played the key role in working with television networks and studios to run promotional content online within the DIRECTV.com video player. He also spent four years working at two broadcast centers for DIRECTV in various satellite broadcast operational roles including scheduling and asset coordination. He was a key leader and part of the original broadcast center launch teams at both the Long Beach Broadcast Center and Marina Del Rey Broadcast Centers.
Thru multiple content production deals at Showtime, Beebe oversaw the production and post production of six DVD Bonus Features for Showtime Networks Original hit series “Queer as Folk” in addition to producing DVD Promos for Showtime’s Original Series “Penn & Teller: Bullshit!”
Beebe also freelanced for Venice Magazine, where he interviewed television and movie celebrities and wrote over 50 articles for the magazine. He also oversaw the launch of the magazines very first website which allowed readers to read the magazine articles online and manage their subscriptions.
Beebe got his start in multiplatform communications proudly serving in the military as a Telecommunications Specialist in the United States Coast Guard where he worked in Top Secret Communication Facilities and was responsible for sending, receiving and managing voice and data messages as well as emergency radio communications during search and rescue and law enforcement operations. He also worked in radio announcing news stories and traffic updates while also producing and writing radio commercials. Beebe received numerous commendations and leadership awards including an Honorable Discharge upon service completion.
An active member of the community, Beebe has served in various appointed public office roles for the City of West Hollywood, first on the Eastside Development Advisory Council and then on the Los Angeles County Vector Control Board. A passionate animal welfare advocate and dog lover, Beebe also advises and volunteers for the Lu Parker Project. Beebe resides in Venice Beach, California with his three dogs.
